This 13 m² room in Oerlikon (8050) is part of a large shared apartment in the Hunziker Areal. It is available from 15 November 2026, or by arrangement, for CHF 990 per month.

The shared household

The household is a diverse community of 10 adults and one three-year-old child. The adults are currently five women and five men aged 30 to 42, most of whom work between 50% and 80%. Their interests include hiking, climbing, bouldering, jogging, dancing, cycling, gaming and painting.

The household values active community life while respecting personal space. Residents regularly share mostly vegetarian and organic dinners, either cooked together or by one person for the group. A schedule helps organise cooking and kitchen cleaning; the expectation is to cook for everyone and clean the kitchen about once every two weeks. Food is ordered jointly, and the household shares subscriptions for vegetables and dairy products from regional community-supported farms. A rotating chores schedule and designated responsibilities support the household, and meetings take place every two weeks to discuss shared matters.

The household is not a party flat, but residents sometimes host guests for dinner or game nights. Shared leisure activities also include film evenings, watching Pottery Throwdown and playing Mario Kart.

The apartment and area

The approximately 400 m² apartment has a large kitchen, two living rooms, two large balconies and six double and single clusters. The room is part of a double cluster, with a bathroom shared with one male resident. The two residents also share an approximately 8 m² entrance area with a small kitchenette and storage space, for example for clothing. The room has direct access to one of the large, east-facing balconies.

Common areas on the cooperative grounds include spaces such as a workshop, sauna and coworking room. The Hunziker Areal has a village-like character, with events and neighbourhood groups. The area is car-free, with no parking for cars on site and no entitlement to residents’ parking from the City of Zurich.

Expectations and costs

The household is looking for someone who can envisage living in a large, community-oriented shared apartment in the medium to long term and who wants to take an active part in household life. Residents are expected to share the household’s basic values, contribute regularly to tasks such as cleaning and cooking, and treat everyone in the community with respect. Previous shared-living experience is considered an advantage.

The monthly rent of CHF 990 includes utilities and the cost of most food. The stated breakdown is CHF 624 rent, CHF 190 food and CHF 176 utilities. As this is a cooperative apartment, share capital of CHF 8,500 is payable upon moving in and is fully refunded upon moving out. The household indicates that a solution may be possible for someone who cannot provide the full amount upfront.
