On the former industrial site in Oberwinterthur the cooperative Baugenossenschaft mehr als wohnen has created the Hobelwerk, a forward-looking residential and work quarter. Completed in 2023, the site is active and inhabited and promotes community, sustainability and new forms of living.

On approximately 15,000 m² of land there are five buildings with over 160 apartments in various sizes and floor plans, complemented by commercial spaces, communal allotment areas and numerous meeting places for residents.

Micro-Co-Living at the Hobelwerk

The Micro-Co-Living concept is aimed at people who want to live communally and require little private space. On three floors there are 24 small apartments for one to two persons each.

The Micro-Co-Living combines private living spaces with generous communal areas across three floors for around 30 residents. These include:

• Two large, fully equipped communal kitchens with dishwashers
• Work and living areas as well as spaces for children, art and music

Only house cats are permitted as pets.

All residents of the six Hobelwerk buildings also have access to numerous community amenities, for example:

Notes and requirements

• The Hobelwerk is car-reduced; residents are generally not allowed to own cars. Instead, a Mobility subscription is provided and there is access to three electric vehicles in front of the building. A car is permitted only for health or professional reasons.
• Instead of a rent deposit, cooperative shares in the amount of CHF 250.– per m² of living space must be subscribed before the start of the tenancy.
• Minimum occupancy: two persons (one per room).
