Location

Obfelden, with almost 6,000 inhabitants and second only to the town of Affoltern am Albis in the district of Affoltern, is located in the southernmost part of the canton of Zurich, bordering the cantons of Zug and Aargau. The Reuss flows along the border to Aargau and offers opportunities for walks and swimming, particularly in the nature reserve. A public outdoor pool with a bistro, a 25-m pool, non-swimmer and children’s paddling pools is available and is popular with families and athletes.

Various shops such as Dorfmärt, Coop, Migros VOI, Ottos and Landi, as well as bakeries, a butcher, the post office, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, a petrol station, a 24-hour fitness centre and leisure facilities (laser tag, escape rooms, mini golf) are present in Obfelden. The new building project at Dorfstrasse 49 is centrally located, so these amenities are reachable on foot within a short time.

The public transport network includes seven PostBus stops and an S-Bahn service with a quarter-hour frequency to Zurich and a half-hour frequency to Zug from Affoltern am Albis station. By car, the A4 motorway connection allows approximately 15 minutes to Sihlcity in Zurich, 17 minutes to Zug (Metalli) and about 30 minutes to Lucerne. Since June 2023 the village bypass has rerouted through traffic away from the village. The Dorfstrasse is planned to be refurbished within the next 1.5–2 years, with additional traffic-calming measures to be implemented (30 km/h zone, noise-reducing surface etc.).
